The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned a self-declared governorship candidate, Mr. Abayomi Hunye, insisting that Senator Adeola Olamilekan Yayi remains the party’s Ogun State gubernatorial standard-bearer for the 2027
The National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, described his self-declaration as the Ogun State governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 elections as false, unauthorised and mischievous.
He added that Hunye is no longer a member of the APC because he had been suspended.
He noted: “The All Progressives Congress (APC), hereby informs the general public stakeholders, Ogun State chapter and the good people of Ogun State that Mr. Abayomi Hunye is an impostor who is currently on suspension as a member of APC.
“His recent self-declaration as the governorship candidate of our great party for the 2027 election is completely false, unauthorised, and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public.
“For the avoidance o f doubt, Mr. Abayomi Hunye is not a member of the APC in good standing. He was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.
“The suspension was not arbitrary. It was a grassroots decision driven by the ward executives in Tube Ward, ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area, and formally approved by the Ogun State Working Committee.”
The party’s scribe explained that Hunye’s suspension was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the national headquarters.
The reasons adduced for his suspension included: Engaging in activities injurious to the image of the party; and deliberate actions aimed at causing disaffection and division among loyal members.
Consequently, Basru said that Hunye lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity.
He added: “We reiterate that following the validly conducted primary election of the APC, the duly nominated and elected governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election is Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan with his running mate being Balogun Kudirat Abiodun.”
Basiru emphasised that in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the names and other particulars of Yayi and Abiodun have been successfully uploaded onto the INEC portal and the commission has issued official acknowledgement slips confirming them as the duly recognised flag bearers of the APC for the Ogun State governorship election.
He maintained that any person, group, or organisation that associates, collaborates, or transacts any political business with Hunye under the guise of the APC does so at their own risk.
The national secretary said the party would not be held liable for any financial loss, legal disputes or criminal liability that may arise from such dealings.
He stated: “We have instructed our legal team to initiate contempt proceedings and file a formal complaint with the relevant security agencies to address this gross misrepresentation and impersonation.”
Basiru warned the media and the public to disregard any publications, interviews, or documents originating from Hunye regarding the APC.
He also cautioned all media houses against granting Hunye a platform to propagate his false claims, as this could be interpreted as complicity in a fraudulent act.
