ENUGU — A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State, Dr. (Sir) Walter Oji, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, alleging that the party has failed Nigerians and would struggle to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
Oji, a Fourth Degree Knight of the Catholic Church, made the remarks during the inaugural meeting of the G24 for Atiku Abubakar and Ocho Obodoeze 2027 Movement, an ADC support group, in Enugu.
He claimed that the APC-led government had worsened economic hardship, insecurity and poverty in the country, arguing that Nigerians would demand a change of leadership in 2027.
According to him, the ruling party had not delivered enough to justify another term in office.
“It is time to tell Bola Tinubu that Nigerians deserve a new direction and that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a man with experience in governance and economic management, should be given the opportunity to lead the country in 2027,” Oji said.
He also criticised Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, alleging that some of its policies had increased the economic burden on residents.
Oji urged residents of the state to support the ADC governorship candidate, Chief Ocho Obodoeze, ahead of the 2027 election.
“I urge the people of Enugu State to support a new vision that prioritises development, prosperity and good governance,” he said.
The ADC chieftain commended the organisers of the event for mobilising support for Atiku Abubakar, Ocho Obodoeze and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
He, however, advised support groups not to rely solely on funding from the party or candidates but to mobilise resources from their members, stakeholders and supporters.
Oji urged the groups to focus on grassroots mobilisation and communicate what he described as the party’s message of hope to Nigerians.
He said citizens had the power to influence the direction of the country through their votes and called for greater participation in the democratic process.
Among those present at the event were the Special Assistant to Atiku Abubakar on Special Duties, Dr. Ekene Onwuka; representative of the ADC presidential candidate’s wife, Anie Gift; ADC South-East Zonal Vice Chairman, Bon Unachukwu; and the Enugu State Caretaker Chairman, Gen. Chris Eze (rtd.).
