2027: Atiku can get 1 million votes from Kaduna with El-Rufai’s influence – Aide

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Senior Political Assistant to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Demola Olarewaju, on Thursday said the former vice president can get one million votes from Kaduna State with the influence of ex-governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Olarewaju disclosed that Atiku has always gotten his highest number of votes both in victory and in defeat from Kaduna State.

Posting on X, he noted that the All Progressives Congress, APC, might show its dictatorial prowess.

He wrote: “Kaduna State has always been Atiku’s highest voting state – in victory and in defeat.

“That state can do a million votes for Atiku in 2027 with Nasir El-Rufai’s influence but we can trust APC not to play fair and they’ve shown their dictatorial hand early enough.”

This comes as El-Rufai is currently detained on the orders of the Abuja Federal High Court.

El-Rufai was arrested and detained since February 18, 2026 when he was arrested by security operatives upon arrival from Egypt.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, arrested the former governor following investigations of fraud during his tenure.

From March to April 2026, El-Rufai faced multiple arraignments across different courts.

He was arraigned on a 10-count money laundering charge by the ICPC on March 24, an interception by the Department of State Services, DSS, on April 1, additional ICPC charges regarding rail and CCTV contracts in mid-April, and a formal DSS arraignment in Abuja on April 23 regarding alleged communication interception.

In May, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted El-Rufai bail in the sum of N100 million and one surety.

The judge delivered the ruling in the case filed by the DSS regarding an alleged national security breach and unauthorized access to a telephone conversation of the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu.

In June, Justice Malik refused to vary the stringent bail terms in the DSS wiretapping case.
