BENIN CITY — Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Monday commenced ward-to-ward mobilisation for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress, APC, candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okpebholo, who toured parts of Egor and Oredo Local Government Areas in Benin City despite heavy rainfall, said he would personally lead the APC’s mobilisation efforts across the state.
The governor said although his own governorship mandate would not be on the ballot in 2027, he was committed to Tinubu’s re-election because of his political relationship with the President.
Okpebholo, who was accompanied by his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, Edo APC chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, party leaders, government officials and other APC candidates, interacted with party members at various locations during the mobilisation exercise.
Speaking during the exercise, Okpebholo said the turnout recorded despite the rainfall demonstrated what he described as support for the APC and its candidates.
He said: “The turnout today in all the places visited in Egor and Oredo despite the rain speaks volumes of the love for the party and all our candidates in the general election, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The governor said his administration would continue to pursue the mandate given to it by Edo residents, while also working to strengthen the party ahead of the elections.
“I am standing in the gap for President Tinubu and know we are all committed to ensuring we deliver 2.5 million votes for his re-election in 2027,” he said.
On infrastructure, Okpebholo said his administration was working to rehabilitate roads across the state, particularly those it inherited in poor condition.
He said the government was committed to making roads across Edo motorable.
The Deputy Governor, Idahosa, thanked APC members for their support and urged them to vote for the party’s candidates in the 2027 elections.
Tenebe also commended party members for their participation in the mobilisation exercise and urged them to remain committed to the APC.
