The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Shehu Usman Bawa, popularly known as ABG, has urged residents to support the party’s campaign for a change of government in the 2027 governorship election.
Bawa made the call on Friday in Kafanchan while addressing PDP supporters and stakeholders during an engagement and familiarisation meeting in Zone 3, covering the Kaduna South Senatorial District.
He said political leadership should be anchored on accountability and service, urging politicians to avoid making promises they might not be able to fulfil if elected.
“I challenge candidates not to make promises they will not be able to fulfil when elected,” he said.
Bawa said that, if elected, his administration would adopt what he described as a bottom-to-top approach to governance, with the needs and priorities of communities at the grassroots informing government policies and programmes.
He also appealed to residents across the state to support what he described as a project to rescue Kaduna from what he characterised as poor leadership under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at the event, Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Chief Edward Percy Masha, said the engagement was organised to enable the governorship candidate and his running mate to interact directly with party members and other stakeholders in the zone.
Masha said the PDP was prepared to contest the 2027 elections in Kaduna State and other parts of the country.
He also criticised what he described as the hardship being experienced by citizens, saying the party would continue to draw attention to issues it considers areas of concern in the administration of government.
The PDP chairman further alleged that the Kaduna State Government had yet to settle the entitlements of some disengaged traditional leaders, district heads and teachers, which he said had been the subject of commitments made during the 2023 election period.
Earlier, the PDP Zonal Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Danjuma Akuso, described Bawa as a “fine gentleman” and expressed confidence in his candidacy.
Also speaking, former Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Hassan Hyat, alleged that some citizens were being excluded from government benefits on account of their political affiliation.
Hyat contrasted this with what he described as the approach of previous PDP administrations, while urging residents to consider the party in the forthcoming election.
Former Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Nuhu Bajoga, also criticised the APC-led administration, describing it as a “government of deceit.”
The meeting was attended by PDP leaders, supporters and other stakeholders from the senatorial zone, who listened to presentations by the governorship candidate and other party officials on the party’s plans ahead of the 2027 elections.
