2027: Peter Obi urges Nigerians to register to vote

…Pays surprise visits to INEC centres

Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has urged eligible Nigerians to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, describing voter registration as the foundation for achieving good governance.

Obi made the appeal on Friday after paying unscheduled visits to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter registration centres at the Civic Centre, Nibo, and Nrijiofor Primary School, Nri, in Anambra State.

The former Anambra State governor disclosed the visits in a post on his Facebook page, explaining that he stopped at the registration centres while returning to the state to attend scheduled engagements.

According to him, he was encouraged by the turnout of Nigerians registering to vote and used the opportunity to commend those who had participated in the exercise.

“I was pleased to see Nigerians registering to vote. I took the opportunity to commend those who had turned out and to encourage every eligible citizen to do the same,” Obi said.

He stressed that the quest for good governance begins with voter registration rather than on election day, urging citizens to view the exercise as a civic duty and an investment in Nigeria’s future.

“I reminded them that the journey to good governance does not begin on Election Day; it begins with voter registration. Registering to vote is not just a civic responsibility—it is an investment in the Nigeria we all desire,” he stated.

Obi also appealed to eligible Nigerians who are yet to register to do so before the deadline, while encouraging those already registered to mobilise family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues to participate in the exercise.

He noted that every registered voter contributes to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and advancing the country’s development.

“Every registered voter strengthens our democracy and brings us one step closer to building the secure, united, productive and prosperous Nigeria we all seek,” he said. Reiterating his campaign slogan, Obi added: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
