An aide to the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has called on the party leadership to urgently clarify its official logo ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Esther Umoh, who serves as Obi’s campaign photographer, made the appeal in a statement addressed to the NDC Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, on Wednesday.
Umoh expressed concern over the lingering controversy surrounding the party’s logo, warning that the uncertainty is creating confusion among supporters and candidates as preparations for the elections gather momentum.
According to her, the absence of a clear directive on the logo approved for use has left many party members unsure of the emblem to feature on campaign materials, a development she said could affect the party’s visibility, unity and readiness for the polls.
She urged the party leadership to issue an official communiqué to all state chapters and stakeholders, clearly identifying the logo recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and providing uniform guidelines for its usage.
“At this critical stage, the party cannot afford avoidable confusion or mixed messaging. We are working towards victory, and every decision, including clarity around the party’s identity and campaign materials, must reflect that commitment,” she said.
Umoh further expressed concern over the delay in resolving the issue, noting that she hopes it is not a sign of unpreparedness or actions capable of undermining the party’s electoral chances.
“The NDC must act decisively to protect and strengthen its chances at the polls,” she added.
