2027: Rivers Action Alliance Backs Wike-Led Rainbow Coalition

Less than a week after the Rivers State chapter of the Labour Party declared support for the Rainbow Coalition, the Action Alliance has also thrown its weight behind the political alliance led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The Action Alliance says its decision is informed by the need to promote peace, unity and development in Rivers State, while pledging to work with the coalition and support its candidates across the state’s 23 local government areas and wards.

The party’s State Chairman, Dumbari Nwigbarato, made the position known while announcing the party’s endorsement in Port Harcourt, on behalf of himself and the State Executive Committee.

Nwigbarato urged party supporters, political associates and residents to align with the Rainbow Coalition, expressing confidence that the alliance would contribute to the state’s progress.

“We urge all our supporters, political associates and the good people of Rivers State to align with the Rainbow Coalition for the betterment of this state,” he said.

He also called on whoever emerges victorious in the political contest to support other candidates and carry them along, stressing the importance of unity and cooperation.

“We urge whoever emerges victorious to support and carry other candidates along in the spirit of truth, unity, love and progress of Rivers State,” Nwigbarato said.

Addressing concerns that the Rainbow Coalition represents Wike’s personal political agenda and a quest for national power in Rivers State, the Action Alliance chairman said the party’s decision was not based solely on the influence of one individual.

He explained that the party was backing the coalition because of its own political structure across the state and the presence of its candidate within the alliance.

“We are not only throwing our support to the Rainbow Coalition just because of one person. We are supporting the Rainbow Coalition agenda because we also have our candidate in the Rainbow Coalition,” he said.

Nwigbarato further described the coalition as a platform for peace and unity in the state, which he said was important to all residents.

“The Rainbow Coalition is only a harbinger of peace and unity of our own dear state, which is precious to all of us,” he added.

The Action Alliance’s declaration follows the Rivers State Labour Party’s endorsement of the coalition on October 7. The Labour Party chairman, Fredrick Nwoje, had defended the political arrangement and criticised the opposition expressed by the APC Governors Forum.

The latest endorsement adds to the political developments surrounding the Rainbow Coalition as parties and their state leaderships declare their positions on the alliance and its candidates.

For the Action Alliance, Nwigbarato says the priority is to work with the coalition while promoting peace, unity and development across Rivers State.
