ABUJA — Ahead of the 2027 presidential and general elections, the National Speaker of the Women Parliament of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Ambassador Sa’adatu Abdullahi, has called on women leaders across the country to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and build functional party structures.
Abdullahi made the call on Friday at the SDP National Secretariat, Abuja, during a strategic meeting between the party’s national women leadership and state women leaders.
She urged the women to organise and establish strong structures across states, wards and communities to ensure their voices and contributions were felt within the party and the broader political space.
Abdullahi said political success could not be achieved through wishful thinking but required organisation, sacrifice, strategy, commitment and effective grassroots engagement.
She said the SDP Women Parliament was determined to strengthen its structures and mobilise more women to participate actively in the party’s activities.
“This meeting gives us an opportunity to assess where we are, identify our weaknesses, strengthen our structures and develop practical strategies for taking the SDP message to every ward, community and household,” she said.
The National Speaker urged state women leaders to see themselves as strategic pillars of the party, stressing the need for focus, discipline, teamwork and commitment to the collective vision of the SDP.
She also called on the women to put aside their differences and work together, noting that unity would strengthen the party’s structures and amplify their voices.
Abdullahi commended the state women leaders for their sacrifices, particularly those who travelled long distances at their own expense to attend the meeting.
She urged them to return to their respective states with renewed determination and translate the resolutions reached at the meeting into measurable results.
“Our strength is in our unity, our power is in our organisation, and our weapon is our determination. We must organise, mobilise and deliver results,” she said.
In his remarks, the National Chairman of the SDP, Prof. Sadiq Gombe, represented by the South-South Deputy National Chairman, Senator Ugochukwu Uba, assured the women of greater inclusion in the affairs of the party.
He said the party was undergoing reforms and reorganisation to strengthen its structures and prepare for future political activities.
Gombe said the SDP was committed to giving women their rightful place in political appointments, party activities and elections.
He added that the party’s forthcoming manifesto would outline its policies across various sectors, including measures to promote greater participation and inclusion of women.
The national chairman described the SDP as an ideological party committed to the welfare of Nigerians and the principles enshrined in Chapter Two of the Nigerian Constitution.
He urged the women leaders to sustain their grassroots mobilisation efforts and prepare women across the country for active participation in the party’s future campaigns and activities.
Gombe also commended the National Speaker and other women leaders for their commitment and sacrifices toward mobilising women for the growth of the party.
