ABUJA — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari’s prediction that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win re-election in 2027, describing the comment as an attempt to justify his recent appointment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Monday.
Reacting to Yari’s confidence in Tinubu’s re-election and the APC’s continued dominance beyond 2027, Abdullahi said the senator was defending his new role.
“He’s one of those lying to the President,” Abdullahi said.
“We understand he needs to justify his new appointment,” he added.
Abdullahi also criticised the APC while comparing it with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recalling the PDP’s past claim that it would remain in power for decades.
“But what happened? At least, the PDP was a real political party, not this SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle),” he said.
Yari had expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure re-election in 2027 and that the APC would remain in power beyond the President’s possible second term.
The ADC spokesman, however, dismissed the ruling party’s political prospects, arguing that the 2027 elections would provide an opportunity for Nigerians to assess the competing political parties and their candidates.
