As Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo, holds its 16th convocation ceremony, 88 students across different faculties will be graduating with first-class degrees.
Speaking with journalists at the university’s multi-purpose hall in Osogbo on Saturday, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement Adebooye, said a total of 4,357 students would be awarded different categories of degrees in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
He added that out of the stated figure of graduating students, 3,845 will be graduating in the first degree programmes across faculties, nine students will graduate with postgraduate diplomas, 400 with master’s degrees and 100 successfully bagged their Doctors of Philosophy, PhDs.
“The 16th Convocation of our great University is not merely a ceremony for the conferment of degrees and diplomas. It is an opportunity to celebrate scholarship, resilience, innovation, character and the transformative power of education. I am particularly delighted to announce that a total of 4,357 first degrees, postgraduate diplomas and higher degrees will be awarded at this year’s Convocation Ceremonies.
“In the undergraduates programmes, 88 students graduated with First honours, 1,509 graduated with second class (upper division), 1,946 bagged second class (lower division), 220 bagged third class while three students graduated with pass degrees.
“These figures reflect the University’s sustained commitment to providing quality education and producing graduates who are fully equipped with the knowledge, skills and character required to contribute meaningfully to national and global development,” he added.
Professor Adebooye also disclosed that the university has successfully produced its first set of medical doctors, who he said have been inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, in August this year.
“We produced our first set of medical doctors. The first set of students for our Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery programme (MBBS) successfully completed their course of study in the session having sailed through all the required statutory and professional accreditation requirements. All of them, 90 in number, were inducted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria on 12th August, 2026, and shall be presented their degrees on Wednesday, 23rd September, 2026,” he added.
