Abuja Area Council Speaker, aide die in car crash

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

A fatal motor accident at Sheda village along the Abuja-Lokoja highway has claimed the lives of the Speaker of the Gwagwalada Area Council legislative arm, Mohammed Ibrahim Ibwa and his aide, Ibrahim Ibwa.

The aide to the Speaker died on the spot while the Speaker died in the early hours of Thursday at the Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he was referred after initially receiving treatment at Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada.

A source explained that the victims were involved in a head-on collision accident involving a Mercedes-Benz car and a Sino truck at Sheda village around 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday.

He further explained that three persons were travelling in the Mercedes-Benz with the Speaker when the crash occurred, saying that the third person is said to be currently receiving medical attention.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who spoke on condition of anonymity and participated in the rescue operation, confirmed the incident, saying that one victim died at the scene, while two others, including the Speaker, were taken to the hospital.

He stated that the corpse of the deceased was deposited at Legend Hospital mortuary in Gwagwalada, stressing that the Speaker and his aides were returning to Gwagwalada from Kwali after attending a political meeting when their vehicle collided head-on with a trailer coming from the opposite direction near Sheda village.

The remains of the late Speaker were later buried according to Islamic rites in his Ibwa community in Gwagwalada Area Council.
