Accident claims life in Umuahia as truck, bus collide

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

A middle-aged man lost his life, while several other passengers were seriously injured in a road accident that occurred on Ossah Road, Umuahia, Abia State, on Monday.

The accident, which involved a white tipper truck conveying wet sand and a Toyota Sienna bus, occurred at about 1 pm.

DAILY POST gathered that the driver of the tipper truck had left a sand mining site to deliver sand to a building site when it collided with the Sienna bus at a sharp bend on the road.

The impact of the collision flung the conductor of the tipper truck from the vehicle onto the ground, resulting in his death at the scene.

Other passengers who were injured in the accident were quickly evacuated to the hospital by personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Abia State Command, for immediate medical attention.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander, FRSC, Abia State Command, Ngozi Ezeoma, said personnel from her command were immediately deployed to the scene for rescue operations after her office received information about the crash.

Ezeoma, who said investigations were ongoing, reiterated the command’s appeal to motorists and other road users in Abia to observe and respect safety rules.
