Candidates contesting in the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State have signed a peace accord.
The candidates signed the accord in Yola on Tuesday, committing to responsible and issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
During the accord-signing event, organised by the ABAK Peace Foundation in collaboration with the National Peace Committee, the candidates pledged to reject electoral violence, hate speech, misinformation and personal attacks, and instead focus their campaigns on their visions for the development of Adamawa State.
The event was part of a peace summit that attracted political stakeholders to discuss ways of preventing election-related violence and ensuring that political disagreements are addressed peacefully.
The Adamawa accord is viewed as building on the National Peace Accord signed in Abuja last month by political parties and presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The organisers of the Adamawa accord said the state-level initiative was designed to translate the national commitment into concrete action.
