ADC picks ex-APC aspirant to challenge Ndume in Borno

Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has chosen former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant Idris Gatumbwa Mamman Durkwa as its consensus candidate for Borno South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.

The seat is currently held by Senator Ali Ndume, who has already secured the APC ticket to seek a fifth term in office.

If elected, Durkwa would replace the long-serving senator known for his outspoken views on national issues.

The ADC also screened two other senatorial hopefuls — Fugu Ibrahim for Borno North and Babagana Zanna for Borno Central.

Speaking to journalists after the screening, ADC Organising Secretary Mohammed Umar Bolori said Durkwa emerged as the party’s consensus choice.

“He was presented to reposition ADC’s unity, growth, and electoral success in southern Borno, the state and beyond,” Bolori said.

He added that three governorship aspirants and several House of Representatives hopefuls were also screened for the party primaries in areas where the consensus arrangement did not succeed.
