Adire: This isn’t going to work – VDM kicks against alleged move to impose Yoruba fabric on NYSC

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Popular social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has rejected an alleged move by the Federal Government to replace the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) khaki uniform with a Yoruba fabric known as Adire.

DAILY POST reports that the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed that the traditional NYSC khaki uniform will be replaced with locally produced Adire fabric.

The minister, in an interview on Channels TV on Thursday, said the move was part of the ongoing reform of the scheme aimed at promoting local manufacturing.

Reacting in a post on his Facebook page, VDM countered the minister, stating that the NYSC scheme does not belong to a single tribe.

He said: “The Adire that they want to use to replace the NYSC khaki is a fabric that is associated with the Yoruba people.

“We have more than 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria. Yoruba is one of the largest, but we have other tribes.

“How can you wake up one morning and say all these tribes should use Adire as the NYSC uniform? Does that even make sense to you?

“To the Minister of Youth Development, this is not going to work. Have you traveled across the country to know what the youths are going through?”
