Afrobeats now more lucrative but relationship amongst artists has deteriorated – Davido

Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has spoken candidly on the current state of the Nigerian music industry.

Featuring in a recent episode of the Uncut Podcast, the ‘Oriade’ crooner pointed out that Afrobeats is now more lucrative than it used to be, but noted that the relationship among Afrobeats artists has significantly deteriorated.

He explained that the music industry used to be harmonious in the early 2010s, recalling that some of his colleagues were with him in the studio when he made his breakthrough hit record, ‘Dami Duro.’

The singer said intense rivalry and competition crept into the industry when Afrobeats artists became richer and global.

“Financially, it is a great time doing Afrobeats, but the relationship amongst artists is a failure. Between 2012-2013, we artists used to hang out with each other, but now everyone is on their own. When I recorded ‘Dami Duro,’ Wande Coal and a lot of artists were in the studio with me, but now there is no such thing anymore,” he stated.
