Political parties under the Apex Initiative, a process and platform overseeing talks between opposition political parties aimed at forming a united front in the December 5 elections, have agreed on a two- weeks window to allow time for reviewing and addressing unresolved matters in their negotiations .

In a statement issued Sunday night, APeX said the parties have now agreed to reconvene on Sunday, 30 August, with a view to conclude and wrap up the APeX negotiations process.

“Recognising the need for a timely resolution and progress, the political stakeholders have affirmed and endeavoured to explore all reasonable consultative avenues over the next two weeks to achieve the shared objective of progressing to the next substantive phase of these negotiations which APeX initiated in January 2025,” the statement signed by ApeX chairperson Dr Jaye Ceesay Krubally and Outreach leader Demba Ali Jawo, said.

APeX also acknowledged a member of the talks, UDP’s formalisation of alliance with seven other parties and movements under the Gambia First Coalition, saying despite this, the UDP has affirmed its commitment to the APeX Iniattive and its shared objective of a broad-based and inclusive coalition, mutually beneficial to all, including their alliance associates and the general public.

The parties in the ApeX talks are UDP, GFA, APP-Sobeya and Tabaax Rewmi.
