Apology: Team Nigeria Spelling Bee Story

Vanguard Media Limited wishes to apologise for an editorial error in a story published on July 21, 2026, celebrating Team Nigeria’s achievement at the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup. The report, titled “Nigerian Students Champions at 2025 Spelling Bee World Cup in China,” was inadvertently illustrated with an incorrect AI-edited image.

Upon being notified of the error, we promptly removed the image and replaced it with the correct photograph approved by the complainants.

We sincerely regret the error and tender our unreserved apology to Miss Maryam Yusuf and Mrs. Waliyah Adekunle Akeju-Ahmed for the incorrect facial representations contained in the earlier version of the report. We regret any inconvenience or distress this may have caused.
