Argentina head coach, Lionel Scaloni, has officially confirmed that Cristian Romero will become the new captain of the national team.
Romero will inherit the captain’s armband once Lionel Messi plays his last game for his country.
Scaloni made this known ahead of their upcoming friendly games against Bolivia, Burkina Faso, and Benin.
The decision to appoint 28-year-old Romero marks the end of an era.
“The captain is going to be Cuti,” Scaloni said.
“He was already the third captain after Leo and Ota (Nicolas Otamendi). There is Emiliano (Martinez), who can also wear the armband.
“Rodrigo (De Paul), who will not be in these two games, can also wear it. Lautaro (Martinez) can wear it. Cuti is the right one.”
