The Nigerian Army has commenced renovation and infrastructure development at the headquarters of 11 Brigade in Gboko, Benue State, as part of measures to improve its operational capacity and presence in the state.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 5 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Moses Gara, disclosed this during an operational visit to the brigade.
During the visit, Gara inspected accommodation facilities and reviewed the ongoing renovation and development projects at the brigade headquarters.
The GOC was accompanied by the Garrison Commander, 5 Division, Makurdi, Brigadier General MD Abdulsalam, alongside other senior officers from the division and Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke (JTF OPWS).
The team also assessed the welfare of personnel and the brigade’s level of preparedness to carry out its security responsibilities within its area of operation.
Particular attention was given to the progress of the ongoing works and the provision of essential facilities needed to enhance the effectiveness of troops deployed to the area.
Gara commended the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General AO Odubiyi, for sustaining the required standards at the formation.
He also urged officers and soldiers to maintain professionalism, dedication and commitment in carrying out their duties, particularly in the Army’s efforts to preserve peace and security within its area of responsibility.
The development comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently approved the creation of the new 5 Division alongside four other divisions as part of efforts to expand and strengthen the Nigerian Army’s security presence across the country.
