Troops of the 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tsafe, have rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists while travelling through Magazu Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The Nigerian Army said the rescue operation was conducted at about 8:15 a.m. on August 8, 2026, following credible intelligence on the abduction.
According to the Army, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and made contact with the terrorists, who were moving the abducted passengers to an undisclosed location.
The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the passengers and flee into adjoining bushes.
The 33 passengers were subsequently rescued and secured by the troops for further necessary action.
Following the rescue, the soldiers conducted an exploitation of the surrounding area while pursuing the fleeing terrorists.
The Army said no troop casualty was recorded during the operation.
The operation, it added, underscores the continued efforts of the Nigerian Army to protect civilians, disrupt terrorist activities and rescue abducted persons along vulnerable routes in Zamfara State.
