Ballon d’Or: ‘He’s ahead’ – Lothar Matthaus picks favourite for 2026 award

Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has picked Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane as the favourite to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Matthaus believes the England captain is “ahead” of every other contender for the Ballon d’Or.

Speaking on his talk show, Lothar legt los, via the Bild website, Matthaus said:

“I would be pleased for him to win it [2026 Ballon d’Or], not only because he is a Bayern player but also because he is an excellent ambassador.

“Everyone has won something. But in the end, if you add up the overall successes, you have to say that Harry Kane has his nose ahead for me.”

Kane netted 73 goals for club and country last season and won the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich.
