Bauchi govt dissolves Wikki Tourist management after relegation, appoints sole administrator

The Bauchi State Government has dissolved the Management Committee of Wikki Tourist Football Club following the club’s relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to the Nigeria National League (NNL) at the end of the 2025/2026 season.
Governor Bala Mohammed approved the dissolution with immediate effect after reviewing the club’s performance and the interventions undertaken by the state government to prevent its relegation.

The decision was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.

According to the statement, the government took the decision to reposition the club, restore public confidence in its administration and lay the foundation for its return to Nigeria’s top-flight league.

It stated that throughout the season, the state government provided financial and administrative support to improve the club’s performance and competitiveness.

The statement added that as part of efforts to avert relegation, the government constituted a rescue team during the closing stages of the season to support the management committee. However, the intervention failed to prevent the club’s drop to the Nigeria National League.

Following the dissolution, the governor appointed former Bauchi State Director of Sports, Alhaji Haruna Bako, as the Interim Sole Administrator of Wikki Tourist pending the appointment of a substantive management.

The statement said Bako would immediately assume responsibility for the club’s administration, oversee the handover of its operations, assets, records and liabilities, and begin implementing measures aimed at repositioning the team for a successful campaign in the forthcoming NNL season.

The government also thanked the outgoing management committee, led by Salmanu Abubakar, for its service to the club and wished its members success in their future endeavours.

It reaffirmed its commitment to reviving Wikki Tourist FC, expressing optimism that the club would regain its place in the Nigeria Premier Football League at the earliest opportunity.
