Big Brother Naija’s ‘Show Ya Sef’ season got off to a fiery start last Sunday, and one of the biggest talking points wasn’t a fight or a romance . It was housemate Abi’s marital status.
The chef, model and entrepreneur revealed during the premiere that she is married, and fans have since been divided over what that means for her time in the house.
While some viewers praised Abi’s husband for eventually supporting her decision to join the show despite initial reservations, others questioned whether a married woman can truly navigate the BBNaija house, a space known for close friendships, flirtations and romantic drama. The revelation quickly went viral after Abi told fellow housemate Aikou that she met her husband on Tinder.
According to her, he wasn’t thrilled about her joining BBNaija at first, but later gave his blessing. For Abi, the decision to enter the house wasn’t about fame.
“I wanted to achieve something I could call my own,” she said. “Something beyond being known through my relationships. I want to build an identity and create a legacy that’s mine.”
The news has sparked mixed reactions online. Some fans argued that Abi should be judged on her personality, strategy and gameplay, not her relationship status. Others believe being married will add a different layer of pressure and scrutiny to her journey.
As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on Abi to see how she balances the game with the expectations that come with being this season’s married housemate.
