Boat Mishap Claims Over 150 Suspected Bandits In Sokoto

InformationNG March 26, 2026 1 mins read

Tragedy struck in Sokoto State on Saturday evening as no fewer than 150 suspected bandits were feared dead after a boat conveying them capsized in the Sabon Gida area.

Security sources quoted by counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed that the incident occurred on March 21, 2026, when the vessel, reportedly overloaded with armed men, overturned while attempting to cross a water body.

According to the sources, the occupants were travelling in large numbers when the boat suddenly gave way, throwing everyone onboard into the water.

Preliminary findings suggest that many of the passengers were unable to swim, resulting in heavy casualties.

Early reports indicated that none of those onboard survived the accident, although authorities have yet to officially confirm the development as of the time of filing this report.

Observers say the incident, if verified, could significantly weaken the operations of bandit groups active in parts of the North-West region.
