United States President Donald Trump, on Wednesday described Iran’s military as being in disarray, claiming the country’s naval and air forces had been largely destroyed amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran had been “completely defeated” and accused the country of failing to take advantage of previous opportunities to negotiate an agreement with the United States.
The president further characterised Iran as “all talk and no action,” adding that the country would now “pay the price” for delaying negotiations.
Trump wrote: “Iran’s Military is a complete and total mess. Much of it, like their Navy and Air Force, doesn’t even exist anymore.
“They have been completely defeated. Iran is all talk and no action. The Bully of the Middle East is DEAD!!! They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!!!”
Trump’s remarks came after the United States military began what it described as “self-defense strikes” against Iran following the downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. Central Command, CENTCOM, said the operation was launched on the orders of the Commander-in-Chief and was intended as a proportional response to what it called Iranian aggression.
