A groundbreaking digital platform poised to modernize Ethiopia’s import-export and domestic freight logistics has officially launched. The freight management system, Chinet Mobile (v1.23.0), was unveiled on Saturday, September 19, 2026, during an executive ceremony held at the Ethiopian Museum of Art and Science in Addis Ababa.
Engineered specifically for heavy commercial haulage, intercity transit corridors, and bulk cargo measured in quintals, Chinet replaces fragmented manual dispatching and legacy phone negotiations with a modern, transparent, and secure mobile marketplace.
The platform is spearheaded by Mr. Biruk Leake, a veteran logistics executive and current Board Member at RaAz Transport S.C. Established in 2015, RaAz Transport operates a heavy-duty fleet of over 80 commercial trucks covering more than 35,000 kilometers weekly across the nation.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, CEO Mr. Biruk Leake addressed industry leaders and authorities:
“Ethiopia’s supply chains rely heavily on commercial haulage along key trade corridors. At RaAz Transport, we witnessed daily how traditional logistics relies on blind phone calls—leaving carriers to run empty return trips and forcing shippers and truck owners to gamble on cash trust. Chinet translates our hands-on operational understanding into digital infrastructure.”
The Chinet platform introduces dedicated technological solutions designed to resolve long-standing bottlenecks in the traditional transport sector. It eliminates opaque phone calls by introducing a Live National Load Board, virtually eradicating costly empty return legs (deadhead).
Also, it replaces arbitrary price haggling with transparent bidding, counter-offers, mandatory reason codes, and reference market rates and utilizes the Chinet Wallet with built-in escrow, holding funds securely with regulated providers until digital proof-of-delivery (POD) is confirmed. Besides to this, it combines consensual live GPS tracking and in-cab digital proof-of-delivery for real-time route visibility and operational transparency.
The platform built on an offline-first architecture, local devices cache data during corridor network dropouts and automatically sync once reconnected.
The Key Features of Chinet are: Tailored interface modes engineered specifically for Shippers, Carriers, Brokers, and Marketplace Users buying or selling commercial vehicles and spare parts; Identity checks integrated directly with Ethiopia’s Fayda digital identity system, backed by commercial license audits. Also, it supports seamless mobile money top-ups via telebirr, CBE Birr, M-Pesa, bank transfers, and card processing through ArifPay.
Chinet platform is built from the ground up with full Amharic and English support, incorporating custom Ge’ez typography and Ethiopian calendar date formatting.
