The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has formally operationalised the 28 Armoured Brigade and Garrison in Birnin Kebbi, alongside the 281 Tank Battalion in Yauri and 381 Artillery Regiment in Kaoje, Kebbi State.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Koughna, said the establishment of the new formations would enhance the Army’s operational capacity in Kebbi State.
According to him, the move is in line with the Nigerian Army’s efforts to optimise its force structure, expand its operational footprint, strengthen command and control, and improve response time to security threats across the North-West.
Major General Koughna charged the Acting Commander of 28 Brigade, Colonel Abdullahi Umar, to ensure that the deployment provides essential fire-support capabilities and enhances operational effectiveness within the division’s area of responsibility.
He said the brigade must play a key role in ongoing efforts to address threats posed by criminal elements and other security challenges in Kebbi State.
The GOC also urged the troops to maintain discipline, tactical focus and professionalism while working closely with other security agencies and stakeholders.
He directed the personnel to strictly adhere to the rules of engagement and ensure the protection of law-abiding citizens while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
Major General Koughna also commiserated with residents of Jandutse community over the recent death of a member of the community in a bandit attack.
He assured the residents that the military would increase its presence in the area to enhance their safety and security.
The residents expressed appreciation to the GOC for the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to protect communities and improve security across Kebbi State.
