Facing third seed Jessica Pegula in a high-stakes, all-American final at the Lindner Family Tennis Center, fourth-seeded Gauff took complete command of the match right from the opening games. Like she said, when I first came on tour, she was one of the few players that was nice to me, and that’s always—no, seriously, that’s always stuck a long way with me and my family.
