Court Remands Ex-CCT Chair Danladi Umar For Alleged Abuse Of Office

InformationNG about 2 hours 2 mins read

A high court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has remanded Danladi Umar, former chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application.

Umar was arraigned on Thursday before Peter Kekemeke of the FCT high court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, on a four-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency accused the former CCT chairman of conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as head of the tribunal.

Umar pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Following his plea, Christopher Mshelia, counsel to the EFCC, asked the court to fix a date for trial and remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.

Counsel to Umar informed the court that a bail application had already been filed on behalf of his client and urged the court to hear the application.

However, the prosecution said it had only just been served with the application and required time to file its response.

In a ruling, Kekemeke ordered that Umar be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter until July 15, 2026, for the hearing and determination of the bail application.
