Crash of military aircraft: Investigation must be thorough, professional, transparent – CAN to govt

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has expressed profound sorrow over the aircraft crash involving a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft near Igbokoda, Ondo State.

Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of CAN, in a statement on Monday, extended condolences to the families of the deceased service members, the Nigerian Air Force, the broader Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the government and people of Ondo State.

“We also pray for God’s comfort for everyone affected by this painful incident,” the statement said.

CAN emphasised that personnel of the Armed Forces demonstrate remarkable dedication through their service to the nation, while their families equally shoulder the burden that comes with such commitment.

“During this period of adversity, our collective concern and spiritual intercession remain focused on the grieving families and their counterparts within the Nigerian Air Force,” the organisation further stated.

CAN said the Federal Government’s resolve to investigate the incident was appropriate, but urged that the process be thorough, professional and transparent.

“We urge that the investigation be thorough, professional and transparent, and that its findings and safety recommendations receive the necessary attention,” the organisation said.

The organisation emphasised that every life lost was precious, stressing the need to continue strengthening aviation safety, aircraft maintenance, operational procedures and emergency response systems, particularly for personnel undertaking difficult assignments on behalf of the nation.

“We appeal to the Nigerian populace to maintain the affected families and the Nigerian Air Force in their spiritual devotions. May the Almighty grant eternal peace to those departed, consolation to those bereaved, and discernment to those bearing the responsibility of preserving human life.”
