Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has said love and marriage are not sc@ms, insisting that the real problem lies with people who enter relationships purely for financial gain.

Speaking during an interview with BBC News Pidgin, the actor said relationships become fra¥dulent when one partner secretly uses the other as a “meal.”

“Love and marriage no be scam, but e get people wey dey hungry wey dey use relationship as meal ticket. Dat na where e become scam,” he said.

Emeka described genuine love as “beautiful” and stressed that relationships should be built on sincerity rather than hidden motives or financial expectations.

He criticised the growing trend of some women entering relationships mainly to benefit from wealthy men, saying, “Relationship suppose to dey sacred. Love na di foundation and pillar of every good relationship.”

The actor urged Nigerians to stop pretending to be in love while pursuing selfish interests, adding that mature relationships require understanding, patience and a willingness to help one another overcome challenges.

Addressing Nigerian women, Emeka warned against taking relationship advice from people whose marriages have failed.

“Make Nigeria girls cool down, no dey listen to those women wey their marriage don scatter o, na dem full online. No take that one go meet your husband for house.”

According to him, every relationship is different, and couples should focus on resolving their own issues instead of comparing their marriages with others or following social media narratives blindly.
