Don’t panic if you hear gunshots – Yobe police alert residents

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Yobe State Police Command has commenced a live firearms training exercise as part of efforts to retrain its personnel on standard policing procedures and improve operational efficiency.
In a public service announcement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim on Tuesday, the Command said the exercise is taking place at the State Shooting Range on Tuesday as part of an ongoing retraining programme.

According to the statement, the training focuses on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), with emphasis on human rights, professional policing, police duties and safe weapons handling.

The Command said residents may hear intermittent gunshots around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday but stressed that the sounds are from a planned live firearms simulation exercise and not a security threat. It added that the exercise is expected to last for one day.

The Commissioner of Police, Usman Jibrin Kanfani, said the training reflects the Command’s commitment to continuous capacity building for officers to enhance professionalism, operational efficiency and effective service delivery.

He appealed to members of the public for their understanding and cooperation throughout the exercise, assuring residents that there is no cause for alarm as the gunfire is part of a scheduled police training programme.
