Edo Police apprehend 22 over alleged kidnapping, murder, defilement, armed robbery

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Edo State Police Command has arrested 22 suspects for alleged involvement in kidnapping, murder, defilement, armed robbery and other crimes across the state.

DAILY POST reports that the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, also killed one suspected kidnapper and arrested another during separate operations.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City.

Ikoedem said those arrested included nine suspected armed robbers, seven murder suspects and one defilement suspect.

She added that five kidnap victims were rescued by a combined team of security operatives, including a woman and her three children.

According to her, the achievements underscore the command’s sustained commitment to intelligence-led policing, crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across the state.

The police spokesperson said the nine suspected armed robbers were arrested on August 30, 2026, at about 7:30 am by operatives of the Ugbor Division, in collaboration with the Edo State Security Corps, ESSC.

She said the operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, acted on credible intelligence to track and apprehend the suspects.

Ikoedem said the operation led to the arrest of nine members of a notorious 15-man gang allegedly terrorising residents of the Benin City metropolis.
