The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected a report claiming that it is mobilising grassroots support in the state for the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The report also alleged that the PDP was working with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) on the mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, the state PDP chairman, Lanre Omolase, described the report as false, fabricated and unauthorised.
Omolase said the publication did not come from the recognised leadership of the party in Ekiti and was designed to create confusion about the party’s political position.
He said the Ekiti PDP had no connection with either the APM or any campaign seeking to promote Makinde’s presidential ambition.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Ekiti State PDP, under my leadership hereby distance itself completely from both the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and any purported presidential mobilisation project for Governor Seyi Makinde. No such mobilisation has been authorised, inaugurated or undertaken by the Ekiti State PDP leadership,” he said.
The chairman also criticised Makinde, accusing him of betrayal and saying the party would not support him.
“Most importantly, Governor Seyi Makinde has never stopped to demonstrate treachery and we in the PDP in Ekiti State will not have anything to do with such a character who is only stable in betrayal,” he stated.
The party urged its members, supporters and the public to ignore the report and reject any political statement made in the name of the Ekiti PDP without approval from its recognised leadership.
It also warned individuals and groups against using the party’s name or structure to pursue personal political interests.
The Ekiti PDP said it remained committed to internal discipline, due process and ensuring that only authorised officials speak on its behalf.
The party further urged media organisations and members of the public to verify information before attributing political positions to the PDP, especially on issues relating to the 2027 presidential election.
