By Ayo Onikoyi

Nigerian gospel singer and worship leader Enkay Ogboruche has been inducted into the Recording Academy’s 2026 New Member Class, a development that further strengthens the growing global recognition of African gospel music.

The Recording Academy, the organisation behind the Grammy Awards, is regarded as one of the world’s most influential music institutions. Its members comprise accomplished artistes, producers, songwriters and other music professionals who help shape the global music industry and vote on Grammy Award nominees and winners.

Reacting to the announcement, Enkay, whose real name is Nkiruka Gift Ogboruche, described the induction as a privilege and an opportunity to contribute to the future of the music industry.

She said she was excited to join a community of creators and professionals committed to supporting, uplifting and advocating for those who make music, adding that she looks forward to participating in conversations that drive the industry forward.

The gospel artiste also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have a voice in the Grammy Awards process, noting that music is strengthened by the diversity of cultures, genres and perspectives represented within the Academy. She celebrated the milestone on social media with the hashtag #IAmTheAcademy.

With more than a decade in gospel music ministry, Enkay has established herself as one of Nigeria’s leading worship ministers. She has released three albums—The Kingdom Anthem, The Bridge and Declaration—which produced popular worship songs including Yes, You Are the Lord and Salute, featuring American Grammy-winning gospel artiste Kierra Sheard.

Beyond recording music, she has invested in developing emerging gospel talents through The Spotlight, while also founding worship initiatives such as the Pneuma Worship Experience and Alabanza. Her contributions to gospel music have earned her several honours, including the Crystal Awards, AGMA (UK) and TAGMA (South Africa).

Her induction into the Recording Academy places her among a growing number of African music professionals with formal membership of the organisation, reflecting the increasing influence of African gospel music and its expanding presence on the global stage.
