The Bayern Munich playmaker reached the milestone in France’s dramatic 6-4 defeat to England in the third-place playoff on Saturday, capping an outstanding individual campaign despite Les Bleus missing out on a podium finish.
His creativity was central to France’s attacking play throughout the competition, with several of his assists setting up goals for captain Kylian Mbappé.
The former Crystal Palace star was among the tournament’s standout performers, combining vision, composure and incisive passing to help France reach the semi-finals before they were beaten by eventual finalists Spain.
While the 2026 FIFA World Cup featured an expanded 48-team format, allowing participating nations to play more matches than in previous editions, Olise’s feat is recognised as the highest number of assists recorded by a player in a single World Cup campaign under official tournament statistics.
France concluded their campaign with a defeat to England in the third-place playoff, but Olise’s record-breaking performance provided a significant individual highlight.
