ENUGU — The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified its campaign ahead of the September 26 local government elections in Enugu State, attracting a large turnout of supporters at its campaign flag-off in Aninri Local Government Area.
The rally, led by the party’s State Chairman, Dr. Johnpaul Anih, featured the presentation of the NDC chairmanship candidate for Aninri LGA, Hon. Edward Onu Nwonye, alongside the party’s 10 councillorship candidates.
Addressing supporters, Anih described the turnout as a reflection of the party’s growing acceptance across the state and expressed confidence that the NDC would secure victory in the council polls.
He urged party members to sustain grassroots mobilisation and conduct peaceful campaigns, while cautioning against any form of voter intimidation or electoral malpractice.
“No one should contemplate using threats, coercion or electoral malpractice. The people are ready to defend their votes, and their mandate must be respected,” he said.
Anih also called on the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) and security agencies to ensure a free, fair and credible election by providing a level playing field for all political parties.
He said the NDC candidates possess the competence and integrity to deliver transparent, accountable and people-oriented governance at the grassroots.
The party’s chairmanship candidate for Aninri LGA, Hon. Edward Onu Nwonye, pledged to run an inclusive administration focused on infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, agriculture and rural development if elected.
Also speaking, the NDC Chairman in Aninri LGA, Hon. Stephen Ajah, expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the September 26 council election.
The rally ended with the formal presentation of the party’s chairmanship and councillorship candidates to supporters.
