EPL guilty verdict: What I’ll do if Man City are relegated to Championship – Maresca

Daily Post about 3 hours 2 mins read

Manchester City boss, Enzo Maresca, has revealed what he would do should the club be hit with a significant points deduction and subsequently relegated from the Premier League.

Speaking about the club losing its Premier League status, Maresca reminded anyone that cares to know that he led Leicester City back to the top flight, winning the Championship in the process.

The Italian suggested that he would go down to the Championship with the Cityzens and help them return to the Premier League, as the case may be.

An independent commission recently determined that the Cityzens were culpable of all allegations pertaining to violations of the Premier League’s financial regulations spanning a nine-year period from 2009/10 through 2017/18, as well as the preponderance of allegations concerning its non-compliance with the investigation. Manchester City submitted an appeal in early October.

Maresca, who addressed the press ahead of Manchester City’s weekend clash against Liverpool on Sunday, said, “I won the Championship with Leicester, League One, we will see.”

On the charges overshadowing the season, Maresca said, “You cannot avoid it, we completely understand the seriousness of the situation. It is our duty, our job to focus on the games.”

On dealing with the hostile reception at Anfield, he said: “It will be a tough game, tough test. We need to be ready. The focus has to be about the team; it may be even worse because of the situation.

“They can absolutely face the pressure. We have players who have faced similar [atmospheres]. We have Enzo Fernandez. In Argentina, it is like this every game.”
