Former Manchester United striker, Michael Owen, has warned the Red Devils that they would take a massive step backward if they sell captain, Bruno Fernandes.
Fernandes’ future at Man United is up in the air, with his current contract expiring next summer.
It has been claimed that contract talks between both parties over a new deal have stalled.
Fernandes was recently linked with a move to Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal.
It’s yet to be seen if the 32-year-old will end up leaving the Red Devils in the near future.
“Lots of people talk about ageing players and not giving them new contracts, but I just think Bruno Fernandes is such an important part of Manchester United,” Owen said via Metro.
“I don’t care about his age. If they lost him, then they’d take a massive, massive step back.
“Obviously, you’ve got to balance the books; the finances are important, but so are the stellar results, and he is so important to them.”
