Fashion Brand Marks First Year, Deepens African Heritage Push

This Day about 2 hours 3 mins read

African cultural and lifestyle fashion brand, The Republic, has marked its first anniversary, celebrating a year of creativity, resilience and commitment to promoting African heritage, culture and values through apparel.

Launched on September 21, 2025, by its founder, Collins Osagie Omokaro, The Republic was established on the belief that Africa’s culture, craftsmanship and creative expression deserve to be continually explored, celebrated and presented to the world.

Over the past year, the brand has drawn inspiration from fabrics, traditions, symbols and design influences from across the continent, translating them into contemporary pieces with a strong sense of African identity.

Speaking on the anniversary, Omokaro described the past year as one of discovery and determination.

“Our first year has been a beautiful journey. There have been challenges that tested our ideas and our resolve, but there have also been remarkable moments that reminded us why The Republic was created. Through every experience, we have grown stronger and become even more certain of our purpose,” he said.

From its flagship store at 33B Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja, The Republic has continued to explore the possibilities that emerge when Africa’s diverse cultural traditions interact.

Its collections have incorporated fabrics and creative influences from different parts of the continent, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary silhouettes and an increasingly distinctive design language.

For the brand, the approach goes beyond fashion, with clothing serving as a medium through which identity, memory and cultural pride can be expressed while creating new interpretations of heritage for a contemporary generation.

“Every fabric we discover and every cultural story we encounter reinforces something we have always believed: Africa does not lack creativity, beauty or sophistication.

“The more we discover Africa, the more extraordinary she becomes. Our responsibility is to approach that heritage with respect and imagination and allow it to inspire something relevant for today,” Omokaro said.

The Republic also acknowledged its customers, artisans, partners, associates, family and friends for supporting its evolution and helping transform the idea into a growing cultural platform.

As it enters its second year, the brand said customers can expect an expanded creative offering, including new products, distinctive collections, deeper exploration of African fabrics and craftsmanship, and new collaborations.

It said it would continue looking across the continent for inspiration while developing designs that are bold, elegant, contemporary and distinctly African.

“The first year was about building the foundation. The year ahead is about revealing more of the possibilities.

“We have only just begun. There are remarkable products, collections and stories ahead, but our purpose will remain unchanged: to amplify African heritage, culture and values through apparel,” Omokaro added.

As The Republic celebrates its first anniversary, its philosophy remains captured in three words; People. Places. Purpose. reflecting a belief that behind every meaningful expression of African design is a people, a place and a story worth preserving.
