ABUJA — Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested a woman, Mrs Beauty Monday, for allegedly pouring boiling water on her neighbour during an argument in the Lugbe area of Abuja.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Adeh said the command received a report at the Lugbe Police Division on September 6 from the victim, identified as Gift Amos, alleging that Monday poured a pot of boiling water on her back during an argument on September 4.
“The FCT Police Command, on the 6th of September 2026, at about 3:30pm, received a report at Lugbe Police Division from one Gift Amos of Lugbe, FCT, alleging that on the 4th of September 2026, she had an argument with her neighbour, one Mrs Beauty Monday, during which the suspect poured a pot of boiling water on her back, causing serious burns and grievous hurt,” she said.
According to the police, preliminary investigation showed that the incident followed an argument over the use of a shared compound space.
Adeh said the victim had moved the suspect’s pot of boiling water from the stove to the portion of the compound allocated to her, an action which allegedly angered the suspect.
“The action angered the suspect, who subsequently removed the pot from the stove and poured the boiling water on the victim’s back,” she said.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the incident, the police said.
Adeh added that the suspect had been arraigned before a court and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
She said the matter had been adjourned until September 16, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and exercise restraint in resolving disagreements.
Sanusi also cautioned residents against resorting to violence or self-help when faced with disputes, urging them to use lawful and peaceful means of resolving conflicts.
The command further advised residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
