The Federal Government and the Katsina State Government have launched a major healthcare intervention featuring 15 advanced life support ambulances, 238 tricycle ambulances, and the official commissioning of the upgraded General Hospital in Charanchi.
The Federal Government also donated three additional ambulances, bringing the total number of new ambulances to 18.
Unveiled in Charanchi by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Pate, and Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, the initiative is designed to expand emergency and secondary healthcare access, especially for rural and hard-to-reach populations.
Pate stated that the State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (SEMSAS) connects state and local levels to give residents reliable emergency assistance, transport, and timely care.
He noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).
Governor Radda said that the 15 ALS ambulances would deliver specialised care and patient stabilisation during transport, while the 238 tricycle ambulances would serve remote areas.
He revealed that the General Hospital, Charanchi—upgraded for ₦2.059 billion to provide diagnostic, surgical, maternity, and emergency services—is the fourth of six secondary healthcare facilities established by his administration.
The remaining two facilities in Funtua and Mai’adua are expected to be commissioned before the end of 2026.
Governor Radda added that over 280 healthcare centers have been renovated across the state, 804 healthcare personnel recruited over the past three years, postgraduate medical residency training established in six departments, and hospitals solarized for 24-hour power.
Executive Secretary of KATSEMSAS, Dr. Adamu Adamu, noted that the system would strengthen rapid response and referral linkages so that no resident or pregnant woman in labor is denied care due to distance.
