FG resolves Passport verification glitches, joins ICAO global trust network

ABUJA: The Federal Government said it has strengthened the international authentication of Nigerian passports by successfully importing all its Country Signing Certificate Authorities CSCA into the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO Public Key Directory PKD.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, who said the ceremony marking the successful import was held on Monday, 13th July 2026, at the ICAO headquarters in Montreal, Canada.

According to the statement, the exercise was led by the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, and was undertaken to resolve the passive authentication challenges faced by some Nigerian passport holders at select foreign border control points.

With the completion of the import process of all Nigeria’s existing CSCAs on the ICAO Public Key Directory to establish a chain of trust, Nigerian passports can now be verified seamlessly by border control systems in all ICAO PKD member states.

The Service said the milestone reflects its continued investment in secure digital identity management and international border security cooperation, in tandem with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

It further reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to advancing the integrity of Nigeria’s travel documents and promoting global interoperability, including seamless border clearance for holders of Nigerian passports going forward.
