Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has warned that anyone found providing information to insurgents will face the full weight of the law, as the state government handed over 40 motorcycles to support security operations in the Hong Local Government Area.
The governor issued the warning through the Adamawa State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Garba Pella, who represented him at the handover ceremony.
Pella said the intervention reflected the governor’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring that no part of the state was left vulnerable to insecurity.
He said the motorcycles would enhance the mobility of security agencies and strengthen their operations against Boko Haram and other insurgent groups, particularly in difficult-to-access areas.
The commissioner disclosed that intelligence gathered by security agencies indicated that some individuals were allegedly leaking security information to insurgents.
He therefore urged traditional institutions and communities to take greater responsibility in the fight against insecurity by working closely with security agencies to identify and report suspected informants.
Pella warned that anyone found providing information to criminals would be dealt with in accordance with the law, assuring that the state government would continue to provide security agencies with the necessary resources to protect lives and property and contain insurgency.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of the Hong Local Government Area, Aliyu Sa’ad, described the security situation in the area as worrisome, saying attacks on communities had increased in recent weeks.
According to him, more than five villages had been attacked within the previous three to four weeks, resulting in deaths, abductions and destruction of property.
He said the 40 motorcycles would enhance the operational capacity of security personnel, especially in communities and forest areas that are difficult to reach with conventional vehicles.
Sa’ad added that the local government had also assisted residents whose houses were destroyed during the attacks, including roofing sheets, wood and financial support.
He appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies and warned against providing information to insurgents, describing informants as a major threat to the safety of communities.
Also speaking, the Til Huba, Alheri Bulus Nyako, described the provision of the motorcycles as a significant boost to security operations in the area.
The traditional ruler said the motorcycles would be particularly useful given the difficult terrain, which limits the movement of heavy security equipment into some communities.
He said the intervention had improved the morale and readiness of forest guards, hunters and other security personnel involved in efforts to combat insurgency.
On the reported activities of informants, the traditional ruler said the traditional institution was concerned about the development and would work with security agencies to address the challenge.
He disclosed that district heads would be directed to engage village and ward heads in strengthening community-level efforts to identify and report individuals suspected of providing information to insurgents.
The traditional ruler commended Fintiri for his continued support for the people of Hong Local Government Area, particularly amid the recent security challenges.
