A flash flood has swept through Akaeze community in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, displacing several families and destroying homes, farmlands and personal belongings.
The flooding occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, September 23, catching residents off guard as floodwaters inundated residential areas and agricultural fields.
The cause of the flooding is yet to be established, while local authorities said no fatalities have been recorded so far.
Community leaders and displaced residents have appealed to the Ebonyi State and Federal Governments for urgent humanitarian assistance, including temporary shelter and relief materials.
In response to the incident, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, visited the affected community through the party leadership and donated ₦5 million to support emergency relief efforts.
The donation is expected to help affected residents cope with the immediate impact of the flooding.
