Fola is officially having a big year. The Afro-R&B singer leads the nominations for the 18th Headies Awards with 10 nods, making him the most nominated artiste at this year’s ceremony.
And there’s an extra layer to the achievement: this is Fola’s first time appearing on the Headies nomination list.
The singer, whose full name is Odunlami Afolarin Temiloluwa, first began building a following with songs including his breakout track “Alone”. Over the past year, however, his rise has reached a new level, with his debut project, Catharsis, earning him some of the night’s biggest nominations.
The album is up for Album of the Year and Best R&B Album, while Fola himself is nominated for Next Rated, Best Male Artiste and Digital Artiste of the Year.
His hit single “You” also features prominently across the nominations, earning nods for Afrobeats Single of the Year, Best Recording of the Year and the fan-voted Headies Viewers’ Choice.
Fola’s songwriting and collaborations have also earned him recognition. He is nominated for Songwriter of the Year for “Who Does That?” and Best Collaboration for “Lost”, his song with Kizz Daniel.
With the 18th Headies Awards set to take place on October 25 in Toronto, Canada, Fola heads into the ceremony as the night’s most nominated artiste, with his first-ever Headies nominations marking another major moment in his fast-rising career.
