ABUJA-Former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has declared support for President Bola Tinubu, while urging Nigerians to rally behind the administration in the face of current national challenges.

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Media, Barr. Stephen Abia, on Sunday,  Emmanuel said the country’s economic situation calls for unity rather than division.

“When nations face existential crisis, leaders are bound to rally around the incumbent leadership, in a bid to rescue and restore normalcy. Our case in Nigeria shouldn’t be different as we confront our current challenges,” he said.

“Mr. President deserves all our support. The country’s macroeconomic ecosystem has some cheery news,” he added.

Emmanuel, a former player in Nigeria’s banking and financial sector, said there were clear improvements in key economic indicators following the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration.

He noted that while the policies were tough, early results were beginning to show.

“I cannot ignore the positive macroeconomic indicators emerging from the bold and far-reaching economic reforms undertaken by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I am confident that, in due course, these improvements will translate into tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians and strengthen the country’s overall economic well-being,” he said.

The former governor said policies that advance national interest deserve the backing of all citizens, and pledged to support efforts that promote growth, stability and prosperity.

Abia also disclosed that Emmanuel, who turned 60, cancelled plans for a public birthday celebration in solidarity with Nigerians.

“As you know, Mr. Emmanuel is a very private person who shies away from personal celebrations. Attaining 60 is a significant milestone, and friends had proposed to mark it. He later cancelled it,” Abia said.

“Instead, Governor Emmanuel has chosen to spend the day in a private retreat, offering prayers and reflecting on leadership, responsibility and nation-building.”
