The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a bandit attack in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area, rescued four kidnapped victims, including a nursing baby, and recovered an AK-47 rifle with ammunition during a late-night operation.
Police said the operation followed a distress call reporting the abduction of three women from Makwanta Village in the early hours of Wednesday.
Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised operatives who tracked the fleeing bandits to the Dutsin-Ma–Danmusa border, where they engaged them in a fierce gun battle.
The bandits, overwhelmed by the police’s superior firepower, fled into the bush with suspected gunshot wounds, abandoning all four victims, who were rescued unhurt.
Items recovered at the scene include an AK-47 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, three MP3 players, a knife, and three wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, praised the operatives for their bravery, tactical precision, and swift response, reaffirming the Command’s determination to intensify the fight against banditry and other violent crimes across Katsina State.
Police spokesman DSP Abubakar Sadiq said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to support security operations.
